During a career spanning four decades, Rosemary Berkery has held leadership positions overseeing as many as 1000 Securities Research Analysts; led the product and marketing function for 16,000 Financial Advisors; has been CEO of a $50 Billion-plus FDIC-insured bank; and was the General Counsel of one of the largest financial services firms in the world.
Berkery was recruited by UBS’s Wealth Management Americas in 2010 to build a wealth management bank to serve the banking needs of the Firm’s high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients. As Chair and CEO of UBS Bank USA, she and her team grew the deposit base from $20B to approximately $55B over a 5-year period; nearly tripled the securities-based loan book; and built both a mortgage business and a credit card business from scratch. While keeping the clients’ interests uppermost in mind, Berkery built the Bank from a small, single product-line entity into a prominent, more sophisticated Bank with a variety of services and products highly-valued by clients. In accomplishing this, Berkery enabled the Firm to provide world-class holistic wealth management advice and solutions for the Firm’s advisors and their clients.
Prior to joining UBS, Ms. Berkery had a 25-year career at Merrill Lynch, during which she held a variety of executive leadership positions, including Vice Chair, EVP and General Counsel; Executive Head of the Firm’s Private Client Strategy and Marketing Group; and Co-Head of the Global Securities Research and Economics Group, one of the top research franchises in the world.
Throughout her career, Berkery was an active mentor of women and younger professionals. She was a founding member of The Women’s Network at Merrill Lynch and actively sponsored events for the Women’s Network at UBS.
Rosemary was named by the American Banker as one of 25 “Women to Watch” in 2016 and the “Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” in 2017. She was recognized by Fortune as one of “5 Women to Watch” and was also profiled by the Financial Times in an article entitled “Rosemary Berkery: Wall Street’s Woman of Influence.” Rosemary serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of The TJX Companies, Inc.; Fluor Corporation; and Mutual of America. Berkery is also passionate about her philanthropic activities, particularly those in the education and organ transplant fields, serving on the Board of Regents of Georgetown University; Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, Regis High School, and OPTN/UNOS (the national organ transplant board).
