Tracy Preston is Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary of HanesBrands, Inc. (“HBI”), a $ 4+ billion public company, overseeing a global team of 36 professionals and approximately $18+ million budget. She is also a member of HBI’s Global Executive Leadership Team which is responsible for determining the company’s strategic policy and direction. She is a seasoned executive, having been the CLO of two companies and the CCO of three. Preston was recognized as one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers by Savoy Magazine in 2022 and has also been honored as the ACC Outstanding General Counsel of a Mid-Sized Legal Department.

In her role at HBI, a similar role at the Neiman Marcus Group (“NMG”), and as Chief Counsel for Human Resources, Litigation and Global Supply Chain and Chief Compliance Officer at Levi’s, Preston has been extensively involved in significant business challenges facing the retail industry. She has helped set and execute on global supply chain strategy, including supply chain resilience and Environmental, Social, and Governance issues, and has deep experience in human capital management, cybersecurity, enterprise risk management, crisis management and business continuity, e-commerce, and vendor management. All of these issues have required Preston to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders and to bring divergent points of view together to reach common goals. Preston has regularly appeared before boards and understands what they need to know, and to ask, to oversee complex issues.

During her extensive career leading global teams and helping set strategy, Preston guided the development of an in-depth audit process to support global compliance – including data governance and root cause analysis. She also enhanced supply chain audit programs, addressing human rights and environmental issues. She helped her company establish and track diversity and inclusion goals for its workforce and engage externally about them. She provided legal and strategic support for business expansion to new international markets, including China and Russia. She helped guide her company through a significant cybersecurity investigation and worked to develop e-commerce processes to address cybersecurity threats and meet associated legal obligations. She has run a dual-track IPO and company sale, along with a divestiture. She led NMG in its pre-arranged Chapter 11 cases and successfully completed its restructuring of over $5.5 billion of funded indebtedness in under five months.

Preston is a member of several non-profit boards, including AT&T Performing Arts Center, TITAS/Unbound Dance Theater, and the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum.

Preston is a leader in her profession, has been profiled in several magazines and is a sought-after speaker on regulatory, risk management, leadership, diversity, and crisis management topics. In addition to her recognitions by Savoy Magazine and the Association of Corporate Counsel, under Preston’s leadership, the NMG legal department was recognized as one of The Legal 500’s GC Powerlist U.S. Teams. Preston won Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Business Award in 2015 and was similarly honored with the Moves Magazine Power Women Award for 2019. She has also been included in Black Enterprise’s Most Powerful Women in Corporate America.

Preston is a graduate of Georgetown University and received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
