Maureen Brundage is an accomplished corporate board member and global C- suite executive who has worked across diverse industries, including insurance, banking, retailing and mining. Her expertise spans general management, corporate governance, crisis management, mergers, acquisitions, risk management, cyber security, initial public offerings, regulatory matters, government affairs, strategic planning and SEC reporting.
Maureen serves on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of MAPFRE U.S.A. Corp., the $2 billion U.S. holding company of MAPFRE S.A., the global insurance company. She also is a director and Audit Committee member of MAPFRE’s subsidiaries, The Commerce Insurance Company, Massachusetts’ largest private passenger automobile insurance writer, and Citation Insurance Company.
Maureen was Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary & Chief Ethics Officer of The Chubb Corporation, a $14 billion Fortune 300 global property and casualty insurance company. She joined Chubb in 2005 and was one of four direct reports to its CEO. She served as a key strategic advisor to Chubb’s Board and its Committees on a variety of issues, including CEO succession planning, risk management, cybersecurity matters, SEC reporting and governance matters, as well as the $28 billion acquisition of Chubb by ACE Limited in 2016. She attended all Board and Committee meetings, participated in the Board’s strategic planning process and served as a director of several of Chubb’s subsidiaries.
At Chubb, Maureen managed a multimillion-dollar budget and led a worldwide team of 135+, overseeing legal, regulatory, government affairs and compliance functions. She was a guiding force in developing Chubb’s global enterprise risk management process and served on the Executive Data Security Incident Response Team, with responsibility for reporting cyber incidents to the Board. She retired from Chubb in 2016 after completion of its acquisition.
Prior to Chubb, Maureen was a partner and head of the 150+ member Global Securities Law Practice Group at White & Case LLP. She worked with domestic and international companies on security offerings, mergers, divestitures and other corporate transactions. She also guided Boards and senior management of her clients on corporate governance, SEC reporting and general corporate law matters and frequently attended client Board meetings.
Maureen has served on the Board of Jersey Battered Women's Service, Inc. since 2012 and is Chair of its Compensation Committee and a member of its CEO Search Committee. Since retiring from Chubb, she has been involved in consulting and advisory activities, as well as speaking engagements on such topics as risk and strategy in the boardroom, leadership, cybersecurity governance and managing mergers.
Maureen graduated from New York University School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of its Annual Survey of American Law. She earned her B.A. in Economics from Fordham University, graduating summa cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She also spent a year at The London School of Economics.
